12/08/07: Website Updates
Well for some time I've been trying to update my site so it's based on CSS for more efficient updating. This is still in the pipeline so for now a few of the sections have had some updates, like the three wheeler electric car on the left. The other change I've been trying to sort out is making the front page RSS so updates for the site can be shared... this has turned out harder than first expected...stay tuned.

22/05/07: My Brother's Website is (finally) up!
Check out his new website showing off his set design in the new short movie Mummy & Baddy.

08/05/07: Boundary Surface
A useful CAD Blog I recently came across is by Ricky Jordan, he discusses some of the newer features found in the new and beta versions of Solidworks. 'Boundary surfaces' is a new tool for creating complex surfaces, essentially it a mix of the loft and surface fill feature. A really good modeling tutorial explaining the creation of a spoon can be found here. After watching the video I quickly produced a ladle design using some of the techniques explained on the demo. Check out the smooth blending from the top 'gripy' section of the handle to the round base of the utensil.

28/02/07: Digg-all-the time
Something I've got a big addicted to is browsing the tech stories on digg.com, now the stories are being fed to me directly when I check my mail or search Google, using the (simple but extremely clever) homepage content modules, which allows you to create your own custom homepage and add feeds from sources all over the place.

To get the digg module simply go here:

21/02/07: Blogee Stylee
I have decided to apply the blog treatment to the home page of this site, I'll do my best to keep it updated with design related stuff...
Handy to know... Convert text format
A simple way to convert text in any capital or lower-case state and convert it to all to upper or "proper-text" simply using Excel: =UPPER(A1) & =PROPER(A1) [Source Link]

04/12/06: Dissertation finished!
My dissertation has finally ended, the picture on the left shows the final testing instrument I designed, conclusion from results and analysis: more refinement required! - but I guess that's to be expected from a 3 month project, I was happy with the overall outcome.

I think I need as long as possible break from Word! Thanks to everyone who helped me out during the project.

01/09/06: New Look!
01/09/06 New Look! Well here it is - a third completely new design for marksmedia.co.uk. This one is a bit different and as the caption states, it will hopefully transpire into being a design portal, containing useful information such as tutorials, interesting product design news and of course some portfolio work. Please let me know your thoughts on the new design.

Why Design?
I think Lego must have played a large role… at a young age I was always messing around building things, sometimes following the instructions, but more often than not being attracted to producing my own creations and having the freedom in forming something new. Really since then, much hasn't changed, instead Lego has been replaced with a monitor, CAD programs and foam blocks. The small Lego rubber tires that seemed so tasty at the time to chew have been replaced with gum and now I like the taste of beer. The progression may seem large, but really the core element has not changed, we design to make things easier, that save time and let us get on with more important things...
